Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving has many meanings to Americans.
On the fourth Thursday of November, Americans gather with
friends and family to give thanks for their blessings at
harvesttime and eat delicious Thanksgiving food.
American Thanksgiving is a mix of several traditions dated
to the time of the Pilgrims.
Throughout history, people of different
countries had always celebrated the harvest festival. The
people of Greece did, so did the Romans, and the Jews, the
Hebrews, and the Christians in Europe. They celebrated the
harvest festival differently but for the same reasons. In the
US, Thanksgiving was later made into a national holiday by
President Abraham Lincoln after it was made a day for all
American by President George Washington.
